INTENSIVE ENGLISH PROGRAM

This program is for anyone who wants to join other students in small group classes. After you have taken a placement exam, you will be placed in one of four levels: Beginner, Intermediate, Advanced or TOEFL Preparatory. Each level consists of 4 classes: grammar, reading/vocabulary, writing, and conversation (TOEFL Prep. focuses on each of the 4 sections of the iBT test: reading, writing, speaking, and listening.) Each A and B term is 8 weeks in length, which means completing an entire level requires 16 weeks of study.

  • Beginner Grammar 1A & 1B covers the basic tools and rules of English grammar usage. This two part series is intended for those students with little or no background and minimal experience in using English grammar.

  • Intermediate Grammar 2A & 2B encompasses a wider range of common English grammar skills used in everyday language. This two part series is intended for those students with some general knowledge and occasional use of English grammar.

  • Advanced Grammar 3A & 3B reviews the higher level English grammatical concepts and focuses on the more complicated structures of the English language often used in literary works and formal usage. This two part series is intended for students who know how to communicate well enough in English to be understood and want to expand their knowledge of the English language to a more sophisticated level.

  • iBT TOEFL Prep. for the Listening Section is intensive training in comprehension, prediction and recall of information. Instruction in listening for idiomatic expressions and conversational styles, as well as choosing the right answer, will allow students to maximize their scores in this section. This 12 week course is intended for students who need personal feedback on the audio content or need extra help with managing information in English. Self-study is an essential component to this course.

(Note: The iBT TOEFL test does not have a separate section dedicated to English grammar structures.)

  • Beginner Reading 1A & 1B introduces newcomers to the written English language in a methodical and highly structured manner. This two part series is intended for those students who often need to refer to a dictionary for word meanings.

  • Intermediate Reading 2A & 2B expands the syntax and vocabulary of the written English language seen in everyday texts. This two part series is intended for those students who need to build a working foundation for general English literacy.

  • Advanced Reading 3A & 3B delves into passages with more complicated ideas and written with more literary license. This two part series is intended for students who are ready for a challenge in reading in English and who have demonstrated some degree of reading independence.

  • iBT TOEFL Prep for the Reading Section provides plenty of reading comprehension practice and answering skills for academic-based texts similar to the ones given on real iBT TOEFL tests, as well as further insight into the subject matter. This 12 week course is intended for students who need additional clarification on reading content or who need guidance on pacing their reading. Self-study is an essential component to this course.

  • Beginner Writing 1A & 1B is for novices in writing sentences in simple English. This two part series is intended for those students who are still struggling to grasp the idea of writing in English rather than in their own language.

  • Intermediate Writing 2A & 2B affords the opportunity to more consciously blend one's own ideas with correct and standard written English form. This two part series is for those students who are limited in their writing by the way they speak in English.

  • Advanced Writing 3A & 3B jumps into the different writing styles and the full-length essays. This two part series is for students who are already comfortable writing in English, but may need occasional corrections in grammar and writing style.

  • iBT TOEFL Prep. for the Writing Section shows strategies for getting the highest scores through efficiency of thought and typing. Students will have plenty of opportunities for improvement through practice and feedback from the teacher. This 12 week course is intended for students who need a quick but thorough review of correct English writing style. Since interactive homework is an essential component to this course, all students are required to be able to send and receive documents via email.

  • Beginner Conversation 1A & 1B stresses the normalcy and comfortability of conversing in the English language. This two part series is for those students who have pronounced difficulty communicating their ideas verbally to others in English.

  • Intermediate Conversation 2A & 2B offers a communicative environment for general purposes and stresses a more natural rhythm. This two part series is for those students who can find a way to express their thoughts with a little extra time.

  • Advanced Conversation 3A & 3B promotes fluency, correct pronunciation, and meaningful conversations in a talkative environment. This two part series is for students who, for the most part, no longer have to rely on translating in their heads what they want to say.

  • iBT TOEFL Prep. for the Speaking Section integrates knowledge of the English language with general cultural knowledge and good oratory skills necessary for getting the most points. Students will perfect the art of speaking on prompt. This 12 week course is intended for students who are required to get a necessary minimum score on the speaking section or who need advice on how to answer the speaking questions correctly.
With the exception of the iBT TOEFL Prep. classes, all the above classes are usually held on Mondays and Wednesdays, or Tuesdays and Thursdays either from 9:00am to 11:15am (1st class) or from 11:30am to 1:45pm (2nd class). The classes on Mondays and Wednesdays are the same; the classes on Tuesdays and Thursdays are the same. If you study full-time (4 classes), you will attend classes Mon., Tues., Wed., and Thurs. from 9am-1:45pm.

Our class sessions repeat every 8 weeks (except for the iBT TOEFL classes which runs for 12 weeks). Please see Schedule of Classes for Intensive English Program for exact starting and ending dates. During one 8 week session, you will have the opportunity to better your grammar, reading/vocabulary, writing and conversation skills. If you do not need instruction in all 4 subjects, you may take just one, two or three classes.
